Punjab Police Strengthens Security Ahead of Republic Day 2025, Emphasizes Night Operations and Vigilant Monitoring

In preparation for the upcoming Republic Day celebrations in 2025, Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav has issued comprehensive directives to ramp up security measures across the state. These instructions are aimed at ensuring peaceful festivities and maintaining law and order during the critical period. The DGP, along with senior police officials, emphasized the importance of vigilant policing, intensified night-time patrols, and a multi-layered approach to counter any security threats.
Accompanied by Special DGP Internal Security RN Dhoke, ADGP Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Nilabh Kishore, and ADGP Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Promod Ban, DGP Yadav recently visited Amritsar and Jalandhar to conduct Law and Order Review Meetings. These sessions brought together key officers from Commissionerates in Amritsar and Jalandhar, along with police ranges in Border, Jalandhar, and Ludhiana. The meetings focused on current law enforcement strategies, specifically targeting counter-terror operations, anti-drug measures, and actions against organized crime.
DGP Yadav reiterated the state’s commitment to peaceful Republic Day celebrations, outlining measures that would see increased police presence at vital locations, especially in sensitive areas and border districts. As part of these heightened precautions, the police will conduct routine patrols and checkpoints, particularly during the night, to curb potential threats or disturbances.
The directives specifically call for increased vigilance and immediate action if any individual engages in violent or unlawful activities. “I’ve directed all officers to take stringent action against anyone violating the law, including the immediate registration of an FIR in such cases,” DGP Yadav said. He also instructed police officers to raise the number of checkpoints across the state to facilitate thorough vehicle checks, which will play a crucial role in curbing criminal and terrorist activities.
Additionally, the DGP has emphasized the importance of bringing wanted criminals back from abroad to face justice in Punjab. To support this initiative, he has directed the officers to focus on issuing Look Out Circulars (LoC), Red Corner Notices (RCNs), Open Arrest Warrants, and Extradition Proposals. The aim is to ensure that those who have fled the country to evade justice are tracked down and brought back.
These enhanced measures come in response to increasing concerns over public safety, particularly in light of the potential for unrest during high-profile national celebrations. The police will continue to monitor and control areas vulnerable to disruption, including both urban centers and rural locales. The combined efforts of the Punjab Police are geared toward not only securing the Republic Day event but also preventing any future threats that may disrupt the peace and stability of the region.
Key police officers who participated in the meetings included IGP Ludhiana Range Dhanpreet Kaur, CP Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, CP Jalandhar Swapan Sharma, DIG Border Range Satinder Singh, DIG Jalandhar Range Naveen Singla, and several SSPs from various districts, all of whom were briefed on these enhanced security strategies.
