Punjab Police’s AGTF busts terrorist module backed by mastermind Iqbalpreet Buchi; Four members arrested including chief operator Gurwinder Shera

13 live cartridges recovered from three pistols; Mahindra Scorpio car seized

The Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) ​​of the Punjab Police has achieved great success by arresting four module members including the chief operator of the terrorist module Gurwinder Singh alias Shera run by the foreign-based mastermind Iqbalpreet Singh alias Buchi. This information was given by Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here today.

According to the information, the accused Gurwinder Shera, who was currently on bail, was arrested by the AGTF in 2022 on the instructions of Iqbalpreet Buchi, who had given Rs 1.50 lakh to Gurwinder Shera in the state to carry out the murder. He was arrested on the charge of conspiracy to murder.

The three other arrested module members have been identified as Gurpreet Singh resident of Patiala, Ranjit Singh alias Sonu and Jagjit Singh alias Jashan both residents of Patti, Tarn Taran. The police teams recovered three pistols along with 13 live cartridges from their possession and also seized their Mahindra Scorpio car.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that acting on a credible tip, AGTF teams under the supervision of ADGP Pramod Bhan established a roadblock at Liberty Chowk in Rajpura. He said that the police teams under the supervision of AIG Gurmeet Singh Chauhan and AIG Sandeep Goyal and under the leadership of DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar arrested the said accused when they were going in their Mahindra Scorpio car.

He said that during the interrogation, Gurvinder Shera revealed that Iqbalpreet Buchi had reorganized his gang and was planning to carry out sensational incidents in Punjab to disturb the peace and tranquility of the border state.

It may be mentioned that Iqbalpreet Buchi was in contact with the slain terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijhar and Ramandeep Bagga alias Canadian, who was the main shooter in 7 incidents of murder during 2016-2017 and was charged with murder, intentional murder, illegal activities ( Prohibition) Act (UAPA), 11 pending criminal cases related to Arms Act etc. is also a close associate of Baga is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

Sharing more details, AIG Sandeep Goyal said that further investigation is on to find out the involvement of other members in this extremist group. He said that more arrests are expected.
