Punjab Youth Clubs Get a Boosted with Rs. 3 Crore Grant and Annual Awards on National Youth Day

Chandigarh, January 12: In a heartwarming gesture on National Youth Day, the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann gifted Rs. 3 crore to 630 youth clubs across the state. This financial boost aims to empower young people and encourage them to play a vital role in social development and environmental protection.

A Two-Phased Approach:

The grant, divided into two phases, will see Rs. 1.5 crore released initially, followed by another Rs. 1.5 crore in the second phase. Youth Services Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer distributed cheques to representatives of 20 clubs at Punjab Bhawan, symbolizing the government’s commitment to supporting grassroots initiatives.

Selection Criteria:

The 315 clubs chosen in the first phase were meticulously selected based on their demonstrably impactful activities over the past two years. This ensures that the funds reach deserving organizations actively contributing to their communities.

Investing in Excellence:

To further incentivize outstanding work, the government announced the launch of annual awards for youth clubs. The awards will be given at the district level, with the top three clubs receiving cash prizes of Rs. 5 lakh, Rs. 3 lakh, and Rs. 2 lakh respectively. This competitive approach aims to drive continuous improvement and inspire clubs to strive for excellence.

A Call to Action:

Minister Hayer urged the youth clubs to actively participate in tackling environmental and social challenges. He specifically emphasized the need for their involvement in curbing the harmful practice of stubble burning and supporting drug prevention campaigns. Additionally, he encouraged clubs to contribute to rural development through social activities, blood donation camps, environmental maintenance, and promoting cleanliness in villages and cities.

Open Communication and Feedback:

Minister Hayer engaged in a meaningful dialogue with club representatives, seeking their suggestions and feedback. This open communication channel highlights the government’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with young people to understand their needs and tailor its initiatives accordingly.

Beyond Financial Support:

The government’s support for youth clubs extends beyond financial aid. Under the new sports policy, 1000 sports nurseries will be established, offering young athletes additional avenues for development and growth. Minister Hayer also encouraged clubs to promote National Style Kabaddi, a sport gaining prominence on the national and international stage.

Realizing Rangla Punjab:

Minister Hayer reiterated the Chief Minister’s vision of transforming Punjab into “Rangla Punjab,” a vibrant and prosperous state. He emphasized the crucial role youth can play in achieving this goal through their energy, talent, and dedication. To further empower young people, the government is launching various initiatives like State Youth Training Development Youth Workshop, Youth Mela, teacher training camps, youth leadership training camps, and state tours.

Transparent and Accountable Utilization:

The grant amount will be disbursed to clubs by a committee chaired by the Deputy Commissioner at the district level. A maximum of Rs. 50,000 will be released per club, and strict adherence to financial rules is expected to ensure transparency and accountability.

A Bright Future for Punjab’s Youth:

The Punjab government’s initiatives on National Youth Day demonstrate a strong commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering a thriving youth culture. By providing financial support, recognizing excellence, and offering opportunities for growth, the government is empowering young people to become agents of positive change and contribute meaningfully to the state’s progress. This investment in the future holds immense promise for a brighter and more prosperous Punjab.
