Rahul Gandhi Targets Modi Over Corruption, Promises to Repeal Agnipath Scheme and Support Farmers
Una, Himachal Pradesh – Senior Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi, during a rally in Una, launched a fierce attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of being the epicenter of corruption in India. Gandhi alleged that all corrupt leaders have found refuge in Modi’s party, and whenever Modi appears in public, he is met with hostility from the people. He highlighted the substantial corruption in the electoral bond scheme, questioning why the central government is withholding the names of the donors. Gandhi asserted that large corporations were coerced into making donations under the threat of the ED and CBI.
Gandhi warned the BJP against dreaming of dismantling the Indian Constitution, asserting that the people and the courageous Congress workers will not let this happen. He emphasized that this election is crucial for protecting the Constitution, which has empowered Himachal Pradesh to exist as a separate state. According to Gandhi, everything is at risk under the Modi government, and the opportunities that are making the rich richer should also be available to the youth, the poor, and the farmers. He criticized the Modi government for failing to create the promised 2 crore jobs annually and for dismantling the employment opportunities that existed during the UPA regime. He pledged that the Congress would restore the right to employment for the youth.
Gandhi strongly opposed the Agnipath scheme, stating that India does not need a two-tier army. He mentioned that the enthusiasm of Himachal’s youth to join the military has waned due to this scheme. Under the current system, regular soldiers are honored as martyrs, but Agniveers do not receive the same status or benefits for their families. Gandhi promised that the Agnipath scheme would be abolished if the INDIA coalition comes to power, ensuring that Himachali youth would have the same opportunities to join the military as before.
Rahul Gandhi accused the Modi government of being responsible for the deaths of 700 farmers during the protests at the Delhi borders, who have yet to be recognized as martyrs. He criticized the government for not doing anything for farmers in Himachal and other states while waiving off Adani’s loans. Gandhi highlighted the BJP leaders’ derogatory remarks about farmers, calling them terrorists. He assured that the Congress government would waive farmers’ loans and enact a law guaranteeing MSP (Minimum Support Price).
Gandhi pointed out that the BJP had stolen Congress governments in Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, but failed to topple the government in Himachal Pradesh due to the people’s wisdom. He accused the central government of spending the last ten years toppling democratically elected governments instead of serving the people. Gandhi also criticized Modi for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that while people were clapping utensils, the government should have been ensuring proper hospital facilities, oxygen supply, and functioning ventilators. Gandhi mocked Modi’s claim of being non-biological, suggesting that he would deflect blame onto divine intervention when Adani’s affairs are investigated. He questioned the timing of Modi’s “visions” and warned of the dangers of having someone like Modi in control of the nuclear button. Gandhi criticized the media’s sycophantic interviews with Modi, where trivial questions like how he eats mangoes are asked, while the pressing issues of economic disparity are ignored. He emphasized that the rich are getting richer and the poor poorer under Modi’s governance, which the Prime Minister trivializes.
During the event, several prominent Congress leaders, including Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh, Himachal Pradesh in-charge and MP Rajeev Shukla, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Rural Development Minister Aniruddh Singh, and local candidates Satpal Raizada, Rakesh Kalia, and Vivek Kumar, were present.
