Rahul Gandhi Visits Gujarat Amid Tensions with BJP, Vows to Defeat Modi and His Party
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader, arrived in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Saturday for a day-long visit to address party workers and meet the families of victims who lost their lives in recent tragedies, including the Rajkot game zone fire, the Vadodara boat capsize, and the Morbi bridge collapse. His visit comes days after a clash between Congress and BJP workers outside the Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) office over Gandhi’s alleged “anti-Hindu” remarks in the Lok Sabha. The Ellisbridge police registered two FIRs and arrested five Congress workers following the incident, in which five policemen were injured due to stone-pelting by both sides.
During his address to Congress workers, Gandhi emphasized defeating the BJP in the 2027 Gujarat Assembly elections and giving a vision to the people of the state. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not contest from Ayodhya in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections after surveyors informed him that he would lose and his political career would end. Gandhi also criticized the BJP’s politics, stating that the party’s entire movement was focused on Ram Mandir and Ayodhya, while no poor person was seen at the temple’s inauguration.
The Congress leader assured his party workers that the entire Congress team, including himself and his sister, would stand with them in their fight against the BJP[5]. He urged the workers to tell the people of Gujarat that they do not have to be scared and that if they fight the BJP without any fear, the party will not be able to stand in front of them[5]. Gandhi also acknowledged the weaknesses in the Gujarat Congress and called for unity and a change in mindset to defeat the BJP.
