Dr. Nipun Jindal, Deputy Commissioner ,Kangra District has informed through his press note today that the Indian Meteorological Center has issued a weather forecast warning of heavy rain in certain areas of Kangra district until August 13. This information is crucial, and I would like to emphasize the importance of taking necessary precautions during this period. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Nipun Jindal has advised the public to exercise caution during this time. He specifically mentioned avoiding avalanche and landslide prone areas, as well as upper hilly regions.
He added that the trekking in bad weather is also discouraged due to the potential dangers. Additionally, people have been prohibited from approaching rivers and drains to prevent any untoward incidents. Dr. Jindal has instructed all panchayat representatives to remain vigilant and urged the public to refrain from unnecessary travel and take necessary precautions.
Dr. Jindal assured that the district administration is fully prepared for relief and rehabilitation efforts. All officers are actively engaged in the field with appropriate machinery, including JCBs, to address any landslides or similar incidents occurring on the roads within the district.
The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted the significant rise in the water level of the Beas river. In response, the district administration has been in contact with the Pong Dam management to discuss the possibility of opening the dam gates for drainage if required, he added.
To ensure prompt assistance during emergencies, Dr. Jindal urged residents to immediately contact the toll-free number 1077 of the District Disaster Management Center. These centers are operational 24/7 in all sub-divisions, including the district headquarters.
