Scandal Unveiled: ED Raids Premises Linked to Amrood Bagh Scam in Mohali

In a startling revelation, a major scandal has surfaced in Mohali, Punjab, involving the misappropriation of funds amounting to ₹130 crore in what is being referred to as the “Amrood Bagh Scam.” Allegations suggest that the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) planted guava trees at higher densities on land earmarked for acquisition to inflate compensation rates.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had previously initiated an investigation into this scandal. As part of the probe, the Vigilance Bureau had filed cases against over 106 individuals. In connection with this case, the ED conducted raids at 31 locations across Punjab.

Notably, Varun Ruzam, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, resides in Sector 20 of Chandigarh. When the ED team arrived at his residence on Wednesday, a flurry of papers was thrown out of the window in a bid to evade scrutiny. Subsequently, torn documents related to the scam were recovered, and all pertinent paperwork is now in possession of News 18.

Many torn papers were found scattered beneath the window near Varun Ruzam’s residence. These documents mention Bakarpur village in Mohali and involve transactions of money. It is believed that these papers are linked to the Amrood Bagh scam. There are concerns that the ED’s presence may prompt the disposal of evidence, leading to the frantic disposal of papers out of windows.

Meanwhile, ED officials emerged from their investigation after observing News 18’s coverage outside Ruzam’s residence. They collected all the scattered documents near the window and took them inside for further scrutiny. As of now, the ED raid commenced at 7:00 AM, and the team is expected to continue their investigation inside the premises until 3:00 PM.

This scandal has sent shockwaves across Mohali, Punjab, as allegations of corruption and mismanagement surface. The involvement of high-ranking officials and the substantial misappropriation of funds have raised concerns about transparency and accountability in governance.

The raids conducted by the ED mark a significant step towards uncovering the truth behind the Amrood Bagh scam. However, the outcome of the investigation remains to be seen as authorities delve deeper into the intricacies of the case.
