“Shinkula Tunnel Receives Environmental Clearance Due to State Government’s Efforts: CM”

Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Sukhhu has stated that the path for the construction of the Shinkula Tunnel has been cleared thanks to the efforts of the state government. He mentioned that the central government has granted environmental clearance for the construction of a 4.1-kilometer tunnel to connect Lahaul and Ladakh. The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government prioritized the construction of this crucial tunnel and appointed special officers to secure approval from the central government. It is through the efforts of the state government that environmental clearance has been obtained for the tunnel construction. He added that along with the tunnel, a helipad and office complex will also be constructed. Approximately 3800 meters of the tunnel will be located in Himachal Pradesh.

The Chief Minister noted that the construction of this tunnel will make it possible to travel to Ladakh in all weather conditions and will provide the shortest route to reach the centrally governed region of Ladakh. It will also reduce the noise pollution caused by vehicular movement amidst snowfall. The construction of the Shinkula Tunnel will be crucial from a strategic perspective as well, facilitating smooth communication for security forces. The tunnel will be constructed beneath the Shinkula Pass at an altitude of 4800 meters above sea level. He stated that the construction of the tunnel will boost tourism activities in the Lahaul region, leading to an improvement in the economic situation and the standard of living of the residents. The state government is prioritizing the construction of the tunnel in various parts of the state to ensure better facilities for both residents and tourists.
