SJVN has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from the Government of Mizoram for the allocation of the Darzo Lui Pumped Storage Project. This project, allocated through an MOU route on a nomination basis, marks SJVN’s first venture in Mizoram.

The Darzo Lui Pumped Storage Project, boasting an installed capacity of 2400 MW, is set to be developed across Darzo Nallah, a tributary of the Tuipui River. The project is estimated to cost ₹13,947.50 crores upon completion, inclusive of IDC and financing costs, based on April 2023 price levels.

This innovative project is an on-stream closed-loop type pumped storage system. It leverages the available gross head between the upper and lower reservoirs, measuring 770 meters. The upper reservoir will be situated on a minor stream of Hnahchanglui Nallah, located in the Koladyne Tuipui River near South Vanlaiphai village in Hnahthial district. Meanwhile, the lower reservoir will be positioned in Darzo Nallah, approximately 5.5 kilometers upstream from its confluence with the Tuipui River, near Vertek village.

The LoI stipulates that a formal agreement between SJVN and the Government of Mizoram must be signed within three months. This project is not only a significant milestone for SJVN but also a strategic development for the state of Mizoram, poised to enhance the region’s energy infrastructure.

The Darzo Lui Pumped Storage Project is expected to play a pivotal role in balancing energy supply and demand, contributing to grid stability, and supporting Mizoram’s energy needs. The project aligns with SJVN’s mission to expand its footprint in the renewable energy sector and demonstrates its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

In summary, the Darzo Lui Pumped Storage Project represents a major advancement for SJVN and Mizoram. With its strategic location and innovative design, it promises to be a cornerstone of Mizoram’s energy landscape, supporting the state’s vision for a robust and sustainable energy future.
