State Government to Implement Cutting-Edge Technology in Forensic Department, Says Chief Minister

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, while presiding over the H.P. Forensic Sciences Development Board meeting, announced that the State Government will introduce advanced technology to enhance the efficiency of the Forensic Department. This move aims to reduce delays in processing crime reports and boost conviction rates. The Chief Minister emphasized that the Forensic Department plays a critical role in solving criminal cases, and modernizing it is a top priority.

Thakur Sukhu highlighted the importance of effective case management, particularly in sample collection from crime scenes. He proposed the introduction of a barcoding system to maintain the integrity and reliability of evidence, thereby improving the accuracy of crime reports. Additionally, four forensic vans will be provided for better handling of cases across the state, and vacant posts within the department will be filled to address manpower shortages.

The Chief Minister also announced that the government will establish Forensic Behavioral Analysis Units, Food Forensic Units, and other specialized units to improve the department’s functioning. Six District Forensic Units will be created in Hamirpur, Una, Sirmaur, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti to further streamline operations. Infrastructure upgrades will also be carried out to support these new initiatives.

The State Government is committed to providing all necessary resources to ensure that the Forensic Department operates at the highest level of efficiency. The Chief Minister stressed that high-end technology and a well-rationalized staff will enhance the department’s capacity to deliver timely and reliable forensic reports, which are essential for securing convictions in court.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthy, and Director Forensic Sciences Dr. Minakshi Mahajan, among others.
