Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann today challenged BJP state president Sunil Jakhar, Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, Leader of Opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa and Congress state chief Amarinder Singh Raja Wading saying that the Sutlej-Yamuna link Before shedding crocodile tears over the canal issue, he must remember the betrayal of Punjab by his forefathers.
The Chief Minister launched a sharp attack on these leaders who are playing gimmicks to mislead the people of the state. He said that the whole world knows that the ancestors of these leaders have sown thorns in the path of Punjab and its young generation by committing the unforgivable sin of building the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that these mean-spirited politicians agreed, planned and implemented the construction of this canal for their personal gain.
The Chief Minister said that this fact is not hidden from anyone that when the contemporary Prime Minister Indira Gandhi visited SYL in Kapuri. Former Union Minister Balram Jakhar (Sunil Jakhar’s father) was also present on that occasion along with Captain Amarinder Singh when the laying ceremony was performed for the construction of the canal. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said that the former Chief Minister of Haryana Chaudhary Devi Lal had praised his Punjab counterpart Parkash Singh Badal on that occasion for allowing the survey of this canal. Bhagwant Singh Mann said that these leaders are responsible for the betrayal of the state and history will never forgive these leaders who stabbed Punjabis in the back.
The Chief Minister challenged Sukhbir Singh Badal to bring the documents of the Oberai Hotel in Gurugram (Gurgaon) in the debate on November 1. He challenged these leaders to bring the agreement papers in the debate, which their forefathers had made by deceiving the Punjabis to cling to the seat of power. Bhagwant Singh Maan said that milk and water will be in front of people on this issue that how these leaders have been betraying under the guise of sacrifices.
The Chief Minister faced the opposition leaders and said, “Don’t worry about the water of Punjab because my father used to entrust me with the responsibility of saving the water of his fields in my childhood.” By God’s grace and faith in people, my duty is now to save the water of Sutlej river, which I will do with my life. Nahi hai and he will protect the waters in every condition
