Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, CMD, THDCIL Reviews Nation’s First 1000 MW Variable Speed Pumped Storage Project at Tehri

Rishikesh, India (January 15, 2024): THDC India Limited’s Chairman and Managing Director, Sh. R.K. Vishnoi, conducted a comprehensive review of the 1000 MW Tehri Pumped Storage Project (PSP) during a recent visit to the site. The meeting included senior officials from THDC and the project consortium (M/s GE & M/s HCC).

Examining Critical Workfronts: The review covered ongoing activities at various project locations, including a close examination of critical work fronts like the Upstream Surge Shaft, Butterfly Valve Chamber, Downstream Surge Shaft, Powerhouse, and Tailrace Tunnel outfall area.

Government’s Emphasis on Pumped Storage: Sh. Vishnoi highlighted the Indian government’s strong focus on renewable energy and pumped storage development. He expressed pride in THDC’s role in advancing this agenda, noting that the 1000 MW Tehri PSP, the largest of its kind in India, is nearing completion.

Impact on Green Goals: Upon commissioning, the project will play a crucial role in supporting India’s net-zero carbon emission goals. It will fuel the country’s economic growth by ensuring 24/7 affordable power supply and contribute to the target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030.

Sustainable Solutions and Environmental Responsibility: Sh. Vishnoi commended the project’s progress and commitment to sustainable energy solutions and environmental responsibility. He urged the THDCIL team and consortium to maintain momentum towards achieving the completion milestone.
