Tehri Water Sports Cup 2023 Kicks Off with Great Enthusiasm

The much-anticipated four-day event, Tehri Water Sports Cup 2023, kicked off on September 14, 2023, in Tehri, Uttarakhand. The event is being organized by THDC India Limited, a Schedule-A, Mini-Ratna, Public Sector Undertaking.

The event was inaugurated by Shri Subodh Uniyal, Hon’ble Minister for Forest, Language, Election and Technical Education (Government of Uttarakhand). He was joined by other dignitaries, including Shri Kishor Upadhyay, MLA Tehri-Garhwal, Smt. Sona Sajwan, Chairman, District Panchayat Tehri-Garhwal, and Shri Bhupender Gupta, Director(Technical) THDCIL.

The Tehri Water Sports Cup 2023 is a qualifying tournament for the upcoming National Senior Category Men’s and Women’s Kayaking and Canoeing Championship, which will be held in Goa in October 2023. Approximately 450 male and female athletes from 28 states and services will be participating in the event.

The Tehri Water Sports Cup 2023, a kayaking and canoeing competition organized by THDC India Limited, is set to kick off on September 14 in Tehri, Uttarakhand. The event will be a qualifying tournament for the upcoming National Senior Category Men’s and Women’s Kayaking and Canoeing Championship, which will be held in Goa in October.

Approximately 450 male and female athletes from 28 states and services will be participating in the Tehri Water Sports Cup 2023. The event is also expected to boost tourism in Uttarakhand, as spectators from all over the country will be coming to watch the competition.

In addition to the competition, THDC India Limited is also organizing an International Sports Exchange Programme, which will allow Indian athletes to train with foreign athletes. This initiative is part of THDC’s commitment to promoting sports development in India.

The Tehri Water Sports Cup 2023 is a major sporting event that will showcase the talent of young athletes from across the country. It is also a testament to THDC India Limited’s commitment to promoting sports and developing sporting talent in India.

The event is being organized in technical collaboration with ITBP, with the support from the Department of Sports and Tourism, Govt. of Uttarakhand, local police, and administration, along with guidance from the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association and the Uttarakhand Olympic Association.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director, THDCIL, said that a High-Performance Academy is being established at Koti Colony, Tehri, with an estimated cost of approximately Rs. 4 crore. The academy will provide free food, clothing, training, accommodation, medical facilities, and school services to talented athletes aged 13 to 17 years in Uttarakhand.

He further said that an International Sports Exchange Programme will be implemented, which will allow our athletes and foreign athletes to benefit from mutual training and technical expertise. This initiative will not only prepare our State and National athletes for International Competitions but also provide local people with employment opportunities and tourism benefits.
