Rishikesh, October 20, 2023: The Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited (THDCIL), Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, has announced a significant collaboration between THDCIL and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. This collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on October 12, 2023, with the aim of promoting research and development activities in the fields of Science, Engineering, and Technology.

Under the terms of the MoU, THDCIL and IIT Delhi will jointly undertake research studies, pilot projects, and consulting endeavors led by faculty members from IIT Delhi. The collaboration will encompass a wide range of research areas, including energy conservation, alternative solutions to lithium-ion storage batteries, nanotechnology for electric vehicle batteries, green hydrogen, geothermal technology, climate change concerns, waste management and recycling, water management and conservation, vortex-induced vibrations, tunneling techniques, biofuels, grid stability improvements, and various other relevant fields.

Sh. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDC India Limited, emphasized the company’s commitment to providing comprehensive financial support for operational expenses and research and development activities. This financial backing will enable IIT Delhi to carry out R&D projects in close partnership, establishing their role as a knowledge partner in collaborative research endeavors.

As per the terms of the MoU, IIT Delhi will provide vital infrastructural support and access to scientific, engineering, and technical expertise to facilitate R&D activities that align with the institution’s academic objectives.

Prof. Naresh Bhatnagar, Dean (R&D) of IIT Delhi, expressed his gratitude to the THDCIL management for their trust in IIT Delhi’s scientific and engineering capabilities, as well as for their financial support for projects in areas such as batteries, communications, and application robots. In the future, IIT Delhi will consider expanding into other areas as needed by THDCIL.

To maximize the impact of this partnership, IIT Delhi, supported by THDCIL, will leverage its expertise to collaborate with both national and international agencies, focusing on basic and translational research solutions. The institute will also involve more faculty members from relevant disciplines and effectively communicate their collaborative activities.

The MoU was signed by Sh. S. K. Chauhan, Head of Research and Development at THDCIL, and Prof. Naresh Bhatnagar, Dean (R&D) at IIT Delhi, and is set to extend over a period of five years.

This collaboration between THDCIL and IIT Delhi is expected to be a groundbreaking step in the realms of research, innovation, and technological advancement, with the potential to yield pioneering solutions for various industries and domains.

THDCIL stands as one of the leading power generators in the country, with an installed capacity of 1587 MW. This includes the commissioning of the Tehri Dam and HPP (1000 MW), Koteshwar HEP (400 MW) in Uttarakhand, wind power projects of 50 MW at Patan and 63 MW at Dwarka in Gujarat, the 24 MW Dhukwan Small Hydro Project in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, and the 50 MW Solar Power Project at Kasaragod, Kerala.
