Tragic Fire on Dal Lake Claims Lives of Three Bangladeshi Tourists

A devastating fire has ravaged Srinagar’s iconic Dal Lake, engulfing at least five houseboats and six residential huts in a blaze that caused extensive damage and disrupted the lives of both locals and tourists.

Flames erupted at approximately 4:30 AM, transforming the tranquil waterway into a scene of chaos and destruction. The fire quickly spread through the tightly packed houseboats and huts, fueled by strong winds and the highly combustible materials used in their construction.

Three tourists from Bangladesh have died in a houseboat fire at Dal Lake in Srinagar, India. The bodies were found hours after several houseboats on the lake were reduced to ashes in a massive fire early this morning, the police said.

Residents and tourists were startled awake by the commotion, fleeing their homes as the fire intensified. Houseboat owner Tariq Ahmad described the harrowing experience, stating, “The fire broke out in the early hours of the morning, and we all woke up to the sound of shouting and the sight of smoke. We rushed out of our houseboats and saw the flames spreading rapidly. We immediately called the fire brigade, but by the time they arrived, the fire had already caused significant damage.”

Despite the valiant efforts of firefighters, the blaze raged on, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. At least five houseboats and six residential huts were completely destroyed, while several others sustained significant damage. The losses are estimated to be worth crores of rupees, leaving many families homeless and their livelihoods shattered.
