Suicide Attack Targets Turkish Parliament, Two Police Officers Injured

A suicide attack occurred near the Turkish parliament, as confirmed by the country’s Interior Minister. On Sunday, an assailant detonated an explosive device near the ministry, while another attacker engaged in a firefight with the police. Ali Yerlikaya, the Interior Minister, revealed that two police officers sustained minor injuries during the incident, which unfolded in the capital city of Ankara shortly before the parliament was set to convene following a summer recess.


A suicide attack occurred near the Turkish parliament on Sunday, injuring two police officers. The assailants arrived in a commercial vehicle and initiated an explosive attack, with one of the terrorists committing suicide and the other being neutralized by law enforcement. The attack is currently under investigation.


According to reports, the assailants arrived in a commercial vehicle around 9:30 am, near the entrance gate of the Ministry of Interior’s security directorate. They initiated an explosive attack, and one of the terrorists committed suicide, while the other was neutralized by law enforcement. Both security officers received medical attention for their minor injuries, with their conditions reported as stable.

The location of the attack is in close proximity to various government ministries, including the Turkish parliament. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was scheduled to address the parliament later in the day. In response to the incident, heightened security measures were implemented in the surrounding area, with gunshots reported.

Emergency services were swiftly deployed to the scene. Security has also been increased around the parliament and the Ministry of Interior building in the wake of the attack.
