Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi today, pressing for the swift release of funds to bolster Himachal Pradesh’s disaster management efforts. Highlighting the state’s susceptibility to natural calamities, Sukhu requested the immediate disbursement of Rs. 9,042 crore based on the post-disaster assessment by the central team, following last year’s devastating monsoon-triggered flash floods and landslides. Emphasizing the urgency with the current monsoon season underway, he also mentioned the overdue Rs. 61.07 crore under the State Disaster Response Fund for FY 2019-20 as recommended by the 14th Finance Commission. Furthermore, the Chief Minister outlined the state’s entitlement to Rs. 200 crore for the fiscal years 2021-26, as per the 15th Finance Commission, aimed at enhancing the management of landslides and earthquakes in hill states. He also pushed for the release of Rs. 60.10 crore pending under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and sought quick approval for a detailed project worth Rs. 125.84 crore submitted to the Union Ministry under the National Disaster Mitigation Fund. Additionally, Sukhu stressed the need for the establishment of NDRF campuses in Mandi, Rampur, and Nalagarh, and urged action against unauthorized land encroachments on the inter-state boundary between Lahaul Spiti and Ladakh at Sarchu and Shinkula. Accompanying the Chief Minister were Principal Secretary Finance Devesh Kumar, Chief Minister’s Secretary Rakesh Kanwar, and Resident Commissioner Meera Mohanty.
