Veteran Congress Leader Preneet Kaur Joins BJP, to Contest Lok Sabha Poll from Patiala
Veteran Congress leader and four-term Lok Sabha member from Punjab, Preneet Kaur, has made a significant political move by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). At a high-profile event attended by top BJP leaders including national general secretaries Vinod Tawde, Tarun Chugh, and Arun Singh, Kaur, 79, expressed her confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, asserting that they are the only ones capable of securing India’s future and that of its children.
Speaking alongside Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar and BJP’s Punjab affairs in-charge Vijay Rupani, Kaur emphasized that under the leadership of Narendra Modi, the BJP can elevate India’s global standing and ensure a brighter future for the nation. She further announced her decision to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Patiala constituency on a BJP ticket.
Accompanied by her daughter Jai Inder Kaur at the BJP headquarters, Preneet Kaur’s move signifies a significant shift in Punjab’s political landscape. However, it was noted that Capt Amarinder Singh, former Punjab chief minister and Preneet Kaur’s husband, could not attend the event due to personal reasons.
Sources suggest that Jai Inder Kaur is expected to contest the assembly polls in Punjab later, further indicating a potential political legacy within the family.
