Major Cross-Border Drug Smuggling Network Busted in Punjab; 28.12 Kg Heroin Seized in Ferozepur

In a significant crackdown on narco-crime, Counter Intelligence Ferozepur has dismantled a major cross-border drug smuggling module with the arrest of four accused individuals from Guruharsahai in Ferozepur district. During the operation, police recovered 28.12 kilograms of heroin along with drug money amounting to ₹9.5 lakh.

According to preliminary investigations, the arrested accused were allegedly working in coordination with foreign-based smugglers and handlers. Investigators suspect that the network was being operated with support from across the border, with the accused tasked to receive narcotics consignments and further distribute them within Indian territory.

Punjab Police officials stated that the operation is part of the ongoing intensified campaign against narco-smuggling and organised crime in border regions. The seized heroin is believed to be part of a larger international trafficking network attempting to push drugs into Punjab and adjoining states.

Authorities revealed that investigations are currently underway to trace both forward and backward linkages of the module. Police teams are working to identify other operatives, suppliers, financial channels, and local distributors connected to the racket. Officials indicated that more arrests and additional recoveries are likely in the coming days.

Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict surveillance along the border and enforcing a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking. Security agencies have also increased monitoring of suspected smuggling routes and communication channels used by international handlers to destabilise the region through narcotics trade.

The latest seizure is being seen as another major success in Punjab’s ongoing battle against cross-border drug networks, which continue to pose a serious threat to the youth and social fabric of the state.
