Punjab Police Strengthens Law Enforcement Framework in Amritsar; New Police Station and e-Challan System Inaugurated

Amritsar

In a significant push towards strengthening public safety, modern policing and law enforcement infrastructure, senior Punjab Police leadership conducted a comprehensive review of the law and order situation in Amritsar and launched a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing policing efficiency in the holy city.

During a high-level visit to Amritsar, a detailed law and order review meeting was held with senior police officers to assess emerging crime trends, evaluate ongoing security challenges and formulate strategies to further strengthen preventive policing measures. The meeting focused on improving crime prevention mechanisms, enhancing public safety and ensuring a more effective response to evolving security concerns.

Officials reviewed various aspects of policing, including crime control, intelligence gathering, traffic management and public safety initiatives. Emphasis was laid on adopting proactive policing methods and strengthening coordination among different wings of the police force to maintain peace and law and order across the city.

As part of the visit, a newly established police station at Mohkampura was formally inaugurated. Developed under the Smart City Project, the facility is expected to significantly improve policing infrastructure and public service delivery in one of Punjab’s most important urban centres. The modern police station has been designed to provide better accessibility to citizens while equipping police personnel with improved operational facilities.

Police officials said that the new infrastructure reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening grassroots policing and ensuring that citizens receive prompt and efficient police services. The establishment of the new police station is also expected to improve response times and enhance the overall security framework in the area.

In another major development, Punjab Police launched the e-Challan System in the Commissionerate Police Amritsar. The initiative marks a significant step towards technology-driven policing and aims to promote transparency, accountability and efficiency in traffic enforcement.

With the implementation of the automated e-Challan system, Amritsar has become the fourth city in Punjab to adopt the technology, joining SAS Nagar, Jalandhar and Ludhiana. The system is expected to streamline traffic violation monitoring, reduce manual intervention and improve road safety through data-driven enforcement mechanisms.

Officials noted that the digital traffic management system will help ensure fair and transparent enforcement of traffic regulations while encouraging greater compliance among motorists. The initiative is also expected to contribute to safer roads and more efficient traffic management in the city.

The visit also provided an opportunity to recognize the efforts of police personnel who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and professionalism in the discharge of their duties. Several officers and officials were honoured with DGP Commendation Discs, appreciation certificates and cash rewards for their exemplary service.

The awards acknowledged outstanding contributions in various areas of policing, including crime prevention, investigations, public service and operational excellence. Senior officers praised the commitment and hard work of the awardees, describing them as role models within the police force.

The initiatives unveiled during the visit underline Punjab Police’s ongoing efforts to modernize policing, strengthen infrastructure and leverage technology to improve public services. By combining advanced enforcement tools, improved facilities and proactive law enforcement strategies, the department aims to enhance public confidence and create a safer environment for citizens.

The developments in Amritsar are being viewed as part of a broader effort to transform policing across Punjab through modernization, transparency and citizen-centric governance. As crime patterns continue to evolve, officials believe that investments in technology, infrastructure and personnel development will play a crucial role in maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety and security of the public.
