In a significant push to preserve Haryana’s cultural heritage while boosting tourism, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has unveiled an ambitious plan to develop Pehowa’s Brahma Sarovar into a grand and visually striking tourist destination. The historic water body, which holds deep cultural and spiritual significance, is to be restored and beautified as part of the state government’s ongoing heritage conservation efforts.
Speaking at a public programme on Sunday at Brahma Sarovar in village Thana, Kurukshetra, the Chief Minister said, “Brahma Sarovar is a symbol of our culture, and its preservation is the responsibility of the government.” He highlighted that the site, along with approximately 102 acres of surrounding sacred land, attracts migratory birds from across India and abroad — a natural phenomenon that further enhances its historical and ecological value.
Reviving Heritage for Future Generations
The government’s mission, CM Saini stressed, is to restore and safeguard pilgrimage sites so that future generations can witness their cultural grandeur. Before addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister inspected the Brahma Sarovar complex and participated in a plantation drive at a local government school.
As part of the event, he announced a grant of ₹21 lakh for village development and assured that demands submitted by the local Sarpanch would be addressed.
Fast-Tracking Infrastructure & Legal Reforms
CM Saini underscored the state’s rapid development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that Haryana is now seamlessly connected through national highways that allow travel from one corner of the state to another within just 3–4 hours. Every district, he said, is now linked to the national highway network.
In a landmark legal reform, the state has introduced a law allowing residents who have been living on panchayat land for over 20 years to legally acquire up to 500 square yards at 2004 collector rates. This step has not only regularised such properties but also resolved long-pending court disputes in villages.
Pro-Farmer Policies Lead the Nation
Highlighting Haryana’s pioneering role in agricultural reforms, CM Saini said the state is the first in India to purchase all crops at Minimum Support Price (MSP). Additionally, vegetable crops are being procured under the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana, ensuring farmers receive fair compensation for their produce.
The government has also abolished colonial-era “Abiyana” levies on farmers and waived ₹133 crore in related dues — a relief measure welcomed by the farming community.
Political Leaders Back the Vision
Member of Parliament Naveen Jindal praised CM Saini’s leadership, stating that development in Haryana is being driven by the principle of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” (Collective Effort, Inclusive Development) and the vision of “Haryana Ek, Haryanvi Ek” (One Haryana, One People). He noted that Pehowa constituency, including Syonsar and Thana villages, has received multiple developmental projects that will help position the Pehowa pilgrimage town as a world-renowned heritage site.
The event was attended by prominent dignitaries including former minister Subhash Sudha, CM’s OSD Bharat Bhushan Bharti, former MLA Kulwant Bazigar, and other community leaders.
