New and disturbing details have emerged in the brutal murder of a 35-year-old man whose dismembered body was recovered from an abandoned plot near the Jalandhar Bypass, sending shockwaves across the region. While investigators have pieced together key aspects of the crime, the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after forensic analysis of viscera samples sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory, officials said on Sunday.
The body of the victim was brought for post-mortem examination in six separate pieces, highlighting the extreme brutality involved in the crime. Notably, the right hand of the deceased is still missing, and police teams are actively searching for it. Investigators also suspect that some other body parts may have been disposed of at different locations to conceal evidence.
The victim has been identified as Davinder Kumar, a resident of Bharti Colony in Ludhiana. Davinder had recently returned from Mumbai, where he was employed at a printing and graphic design shop. His sudden and violent death has left his family and acquaintances in shock.
In a major breakthrough, the police arrested two accused—a husband and wife—on Friday. The prime accused has been identified as Shamsher, also known as Shera, who works as a carpenter. According to the investigation so far, Davinder and Shamsher shared a close friendship, which investigators believe later turned sour due to a financial dispute.
Preliminary findings suggest that an argument over money escalated into a fatal confrontation. The accused allegedly killed Davinder and later dismembered the body using a saw. In an attempt to destroy evidence, the body parts were stuffed into a drum and dumped in a vacant plot near the bypass area.
The horrifying crime came to light when a passerby noticed a suspicious drum lying in the abandoned plot and informed the police. Acting swiftly, a police team reached the spot and recovered the severed body parts. The area where the drum was found falls under the jurisdiction of the Salem Tabri police station in Ludhiana.
Police officials said the manner in which the body was disposed of indicates careful planning after the crime, suggesting an attempt to mislead investigators and delay identification. Teams are now retracing the movements of the accused and examining possible locations where additional body parts might have been discarded.
