Rajya Sabha member Sandeep Pathak has vacated his official residence in the national capital, even as he faces the possibility of arrest following the registration of two First Information Reports against him in Punjab. According to reports, the cases involve non-bailable offences, intensifying the legal pressure on the former Aam Aadmi Party leader.
Sources indicate that Pathak has switched off his phone and moved to an undisclosed location. In response, the Bharatiya Janata Party has activated its legal team to explore options for securing relief for him.
Pathak is among a group of seven Rajya Sabha members who recently parted ways with the Aam Aadmi Party led by Arvind Kejriwal and subsequently joined the BJP. The development has significantly altered the political dynamics, particularly in Punjab.
The group of defecting MPs includes Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Rajinder Gupta, Swati Maliwal and Vikramjit Sahney. Except for Maliwal, all represent Punjab in the Upper House.
The exit of these high-profile figures has dealt a major blow to the AAP’s presence in the Rajya Sabha, raising questions about internal cohesion within the party. Meanwhile, Pathak’s legal troubles are likely to add another layer of complexity to an already volatile political situation.
