Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini strongly criticized the opposition, especially former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, for their misleading statements on electricity bills and power sector management. Addressing a press conference in Hisar, CM Saini reminded the public of the poor power infrastructure under Congress rule and presented a data-backed comparison showcasing significant improvements made by the current BJP-led government.
CM Saini recalled the situation when Hooda served as Chief Minister and Surjewala held the Power Ministry portfolio, asserting that during their tenure, the state suffered from frequent power cuts in urban and rural areas alike. In contrast, he highlighted that the present administration has fulfilled its promise of providing 24-hour electricity while also reducing the financial burden on consumers.
Presenting a detailed comparative analysis, Saini shared the electricity bill data from 2013-14 under the Congress regime, where consumers were charged ₹200 for up to 25 units, ₹200 for up to 50 units, ₹378 for up to 100 units, ₹603 for 150 units, ₹828 for 200 units, ₹1053 for 250 units, and ₹1316 for 300 units of electricity consumption. Under the current government in 2025-26, these charges have been significantly reduced to ₹55, ₹110, ₹245, ₹443, ₹705, ₹968, and ₹1230 respectively for the same consumption slabs.
CM Saini urged Hooda and Surjewala to address the public with verified facts and avoid misleading narratives. He challenged them to engage in open discussions based on data rather than spreading disinformation. He emphasized that the current administration not only improved power supply but also ensured that consumers were not burdened with inflated electricity bills. He added that the debt incurred by electricity companies during Congress rule has been significantly reduced and is expected to become zero by 2027.
Highlighting the central government’s efforts, CM Saini mentioned that under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana, over 15,000 households have been equipped with rooftop solar panels. He encouraged residents with up to 2 kW electricity connections to adopt solar energy, stating that their electricity bills would effectively become zero.
Looking forward to future developments, CM Saini announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Haryana on April 14 to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for two major infrastructure projects. The first is an 800 MW supercritical unit in Yamunanagar costing ₹7272 crore, which is slated for completion by the end of 2028. The second major announcement is the inauguration of domestic flight operations from Maharaja Agrasen Airport in Hisar, including a terminal building, which will serve parts of Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan.
He further informed that flights will initially operate twice a week from Hisar to Ayodhya, with potential expansions based on passenger demand. The first booking window for these flights was open for two hours, and all seats were filled within that time frame.
When asked about security arrangements at the Hisar airport, CM Saini assured that the airport spans 7200 acres with a 2000-acre perimeter wall, and efforts are ongoing to safely relocate animals from the premises to ensure operational safety.
Addressing the recent political debate around the Wakf Amendment Bill, CM Saini dismissed the Congress criticism as politically motivated. He stated that the bill is in the interest of the Muslim community and all other sections of society. He accused the Congress of rushing such legislation for vote-bank politics, which ultimately led to their poor performance in Haryana municipal elections and repeated failures in Delhi polls.
Outlining future plans, CM Saini revealed that the Ambala airport project is awaiting a few final approvals and that many more large-scale initiatives are in the pipeline. These include the soon-to-be-inaugurated Pt. Deen Dayal Medical University, Pt. Neki Ram Medical College in Bhiwani, and an elevated railway track in Kurukshetra.
To further streamline long-term development planning, he announced the establishment of a new “Department of Future” aimed at crafting a comprehensive 20-year roadmap for Haryana’s growth.
The event was attended by senior dignitaries including Public Works Minister Ranbir Gangwa, BJP State President Mohan Lal Kaushik, MLAs Savitri Jindal and Randhir Panihar, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, and Director General of Information, Public Relations, Languages & Culture Department Makarand Pandurang.
