In a significant development, the Chandigarh Police has registered an FIR against Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor, Rohtak SP, and around 13 other senior officers in connection with the suicide of IPS officer Y. Pooran Kumar. The action comes after a formal complaint was filed by the deceased officer’s wife, alleging sustained harassment and discrimination.

According to police sources, the FIR cites serious allegations made in an eight-page suicide note left by IPS Y. Pooran Kumar. In the note, he accused several senior officers of mental harassment, caste-based discrimination, and continuous victimization. The note reportedly mentions that the officer had been facing intense pressure and humiliation over a long period, which ultimately led him to take this extreme step.
The Chandigarh Police has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter in detail. The investigation will cover the suicide note, digital evidence, phone call records, and CCTV footage to ascertain the sequence of events and identify those responsible.
A senior official from the Chandigarh Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that no conclusions have yet been drawn. “Every piece of evidence is being examined meticulously. The case involves sensitive issues of workplace harassment and caste-based bias, so the inquiry will be conducted with complete fairness and transparency,” the official stated.
The tragic death of IPS Y. Pooran Kumar has sent shockwaves through the police fraternity, raising serious questions about mental health, workplace stress, and systemic discrimination within the force.
