After 404 days of partial closure, the Singhu border is now fully open, bringing much-needed relief to thousands of daily commuters. On Monday, the Delhi Police removed all barricades and debris, restoring smooth traffic flow on the busy Delhi-Panipat stretch of National Highway 44 (NH-44).

MLA Nikhil Madaan visited the site to assess the situation and confirmed that the national highway is now fully operational. He criticized the prolonged closure, emphasizing that the blockade had caused major traffic congestion and daily hardships for commuters.

The Delhi Police had initially barricaded the Singhu border on February 13 last year during the Farmers’ Protest 2.0, sealing both the main carriageway and service lanes with multiple layers of barricades to prevent protestors from advancing toward Delhi. At the same time, the Haryana Police had halted farmers at the Shambhu border.

While service lanes were gradually reopened, and a single lane on the flyover became accessible by March 13 last year, two lanes on each side remained blocked for over a year, leading to severe traffic snarls.

Following the recent eviction of protesting farmers from the Shambhu border, Delhi Police acted swiftly and removed all barricades at Singhu within four days. By Sunday, the carriageway on the Delhi-Panipat lane was completely cleared, and on Monday, the Panipat-Delhi lane was also made fully operational after the removal of debris and remaining barricades.

Subhash Gupta, Director of the Kundli Industrial Association (KIA), confirmed that with the Singhu border now fully open, there are no traffic bottlenecks. He noted that thousands of commuters, along with industrialists, private sector employees, and government workers, will benefit from the restored connectivity.
