Four Killed as Vehicle Plunges Into Gorge Near Shimla

In a tragic accident, four people, including a woman and her daughter, lost their lives when the vehicle they were traveling in fell into a deep gorge on the Anandpur-Mehli road on the outskirts of Shimla. The accident occurred late Tuesday night near Lalpani Bridge after the driver lost control, leading to the fatal plunge.

The victims have been identified as 45-year-old Rupa Suryawanshi, wife of Bhagwan Das, and her 14-year-old daughter Pragati. The other two deceased were 10-year-old Mukul, son of Het Ram, and 40-year-old Jai Singh Negi, son of Padam Negi. While Rupa Suryawanshi and her daughter were residents of Nav Bahar in Shimla, Jai Singh Negi hailed from Sanjauli in Shimla.

Authorities, including the police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), launched a rescue operation and managed to retrieve the bodies from the accident site. The deceased were transported to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, where post-mortem examinations will be conducted.

The incident has left the local community in deep shock, raising concerns about road safety in hilly terrains where accidents due to loss of vehicle control are not uncommon. Officials have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution while navigating the winding roads of the region to prevent such devastating mishaps.
